The West Franklinton Plan

Columbus, OH

Keeping the culture: community collaboration steers revitalization blueprint

Leading through collaboration and community outreach

The West Franklinton Plan is a holistic effort to create a blueprint for a proud, disadvantaged Columbus neighborhood.

Spearheading this project, EDGE led a highly collaborative team to develop a neighborhood-based strategy through a distinctly interactive public process. Using a combination of on-line outreach, public meetings, individual stakeholder interviews, and ongoing community dialogue, the planning team assembled a clear picture of the current challenges and created a vision for seizing the opportunities presented.

Improving local opportunity while maintaining current character

Recommendations for the neighborhood include long-term land use strategies, a district redevelopment vision, a neighborhood vacant property strategy, and a list of near-term public realm improvements. Under our leadership, the team coordinated potential redevelopment areas and infill concepts with identified current and future market conditions.

As a result of these initiatives, the plan outlines potential redevelopment opportunities within the context of improving, rather than replacing, the current character of the neighborhood. Illustrated development concepts maintain a mixed-use urban character while presenting new ways to enhance the positive attributes of West Franklinton.
