Learning by design: new campus plan inspires student success
Student-centered design transforms challenging site
The Knowledge is Power Program (KIPP) is a national network of free, open-enrollment schools dedicated to preparing students in underserved communities for success in college and life. Situated on the former Bridgeview Golf Course and Driving Range, KIPP’s new campus in Columbus, Ohio serves over 1,400 students every day.
Taking advantage of the rolling terrain, the campus engages the site’s features with campus buildings and courtyards placed along the old fairways. EDGE’s design preserved existing mature trees, maximized views toward the adjacent natural riparian corridor, and inspired the creation of outdoor learning environments.
Collaborative approach maximizes site functionality
EDGE collaborated with the design team on site master planning efforts and provided detailed landscape architectural design and documentation for the new primary school, high school, and stadium complex. Not only did we inspire the creation of outdoor learning environments, we led design efforts on a campus circulation system that integrates bus traffic, parking, and safe pedestrian passage throughout the site.
