With the help of five local design firms, ULI Columbus partnered with Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC) to redefine central Ohio’s greenway corridors through a collaborative design process known as Rapid 5. The result was a vision for an integrated open space network in central Ohio that will prescribe how to best use our natural assets to benefit our economy, manage growth, provide access for recreation, education, and health; preserve natural resources and environmental health.
EDGE was selected to help realize the potential of the Big Walnut Creek corridor. Characterized by its natural beauty, the waterway occupies the eastern third of Franklin County, with almost 25 miles of waterfront running from Hoover Reservoir to the Scioto River confluence near Lockbourne. The Big Walnut Creek and its tributaries travel through a dozen cities, townships, municipalities, and villages solidifying its importance as a potential conveyor to the region’s resources.
An intensive two-month-long design process culminated with the presentation of our ideas in front of a full house at the Columbus Metropolitan Club (Full presentation here).
