EDGE proudly announces that James Hiss, FASLA—Emeritus Principal of EDGE, a Faculty Emeritus at The Ohio State University, a 2004 Fellow of the ASLA and a Past-President of OCASLA—has been honored with the prestigious Ohio Chapter ASLA Medal.
The Ohio Chapter ASLA Medal is given “in recognition of a landscape architect whose lifetime achievements and contributions have had a unique and lasting impact on the welfare of the public and the environment.” Jim joins a distinguished group of past honorees. This award is a testament to his profound influence on both the landscape architecture industry and the many students he has mentored throughout his career.
Jim’s career spans over four decades, during which he played a pivotal role in shaping not only EDGE but also the broader landscape architectural community. Known for his innovative designs and stunning detailed illustrations, he has helped set the standard for excellence in the field. His work has been recognized for its lasting impact on communities and institutions, reflecting his dedication to integrating functional and aesthetically pleasing designs into our lives.
Jim is also a revered professor who shaped the minds of numerous future generations of landscape architects. Over his 25+ year teaching career at The Ohio State University, he inspired countless students, many of whom have gone on to become leaders in the field themselves. His teaching philosophy, which emphasizes critical thinking and a deep respect for the built environment, has left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to learn under his guidance.
