A welcome sight: visionary airport project showcases Columbus’s unique identity

Local inspiration takes flight

The Gateway project established a new identity for the John Glenn Columbus International Airport and for the City of Columbus itself. Leading the master planning effort, EDGE worked to define the streetscape vision for major entrance corridors while establishing project budgets and priorities.

Drawing inspiration from local geology, the historic arches of Columbus, and the wings of airplanes, the corridor improvements include site structures and plantings that provide a cohesive experience upon arrival and departure from the airport terminal. With several phases of implementation, features of the project include the dramatic “Welcome Signs” that greet visitors and the drop off zones at the terminal.
